Drop of Dating Age ?

Drop of Dating Age ?

Is it just me or are you to seeing kids younger and younger being out on their own? The age of dating has seemed to have dropped from sixteen to twelve. As a mom, I myself can’t help but look around and ask the question of who’s dumb idea was this. Now to be fair I’m not talking about parents that take their kids to meet other kids and stay at the movies with them . I’m talking about parents that take their son/daughter at the age of twelve and drop them off with a boy/girl friend for a date and pick them up latter. This really dumbfounds me. It seems that some adults are more worried about being friends with their child instead of being a parent for them. I myself have three children ages eleven, nine, and seven. A few days a go my eleven year old daughter came home from school and told me that she had been asked out to the middle school home coming dance by a fifteen year old boy. I will admit I stood there looking like a deer caught in the headlights, she went on to tell me how the boys cousin would pick them up and drop them off at the dance ‘cause he has a car. I snapped out of my stunned state. I told her the only thing I could think of at the moment which was “ ask your father”. Yea, I know it was a copout to save face. Her dad was so shocked he could not speak. Needless to say we both agreed she could not go. So what do you think? Should kids as young as twelve or in my case eleven be able to date?
